How to customize the left side of the Windows 10 Start menu - packerangem1981

I don't know about you, merely I didn't earn how much I'd missed the Start menu until I moved from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 a few weeks ago (stop looking indeed smug Start8 users). It's a fantastic touch to have it back, and I rattling like the live tiles addition.

One thing I can't stand, however, is how Microsoft uses the left incline of the Start menu in Windows 10. It's filled up with the "most used" apps that are anything but, and I really don't indigence that "recently added" section for newly installed apps and programs.

If you feel the same way you can turn all that inactive, and fill information technology up with items you actually mightiness usage.

Dump Just about utilised and Recently added

The default view of the left lateral of the Windows 10 Start menu.

Let's get started by hitting Offse and opening the Settings app. Then attend Personalization > Start. Now just now slide to Off the options for Present most used apps and Show recently added apps.

Fill it up

Now that we've done that, there's a big empty hole along the left side of the Start menu. We can't satiate IT functioning with just anything we want, but we do get a few options.

In the Settings app again, navigate to Personalization > Start > Choose which folders look on Start. This screen is just a set of sliders to make ad hoc folders appear in Start. IT's kind of similar to what you see in the Windows 7 Start menu much Eastern Samoa the documents, pictures, and music folders. Only this meter the folders demonstrate up on the left rather of the right.

There are also some organization settings you can add in this list that aren't folders, such equally quick access to Homegroup and net settings.

Personally, I went with a bunch of folders including Documents, Downloads, Medicine, Pictures, Videos, and Personal folder, which is precisely a take to public figure for the root of your Windows user folder.

As you rear end imag in this image, that does a jolly ripe job of filling up the dead space. Perhaps I'll switch on the Recently added section again, but for now I'm message with information technology as-is.
